D.A.D. is a weekly night skate serving Boston's northwestern suburbs with convienient access to Route 2. Devens is a former Army base now in primarily civilian use with some 55 miles of almost car-free pavement.
We skate Thursdays evenings for about an hour and a half at pace determined by who shows up. There are good hills, both up and down. D.A.D. attracts a small group of regulars but there are always new faces, too.
Skaters gather at the Devens Community Center parking lot around 6:15 pm and leave promptly at 6:45 p.m.
Directions: Take Route 2 to Exit 37B, Jackson Road/Devens, 7 miles west of I-495 or 5 miles east of I-190. From the Jackson Gate drive 1.6 miles to the curve and turn left onto Sherman. Go down the hill for .25 miles and turn right into the Devens Community Center parking lot.
Participants must wear helmets and wrist guards, and complete safety gear is encouraged. The skate will be cancelled due to rain or other bad weather, with no notification posted.
