ICB Night Skates are advanced-level skates run every Tuesday evening from late April to October. A typical skate lasts two and a half hours. We stop frequently to allow slower skaters to catch up. Midway through the skate, we take a 5 to 10 minute break to rest and get water.
The ICB Night Skates are a great way to get a workout, meet other skaters, and visit scenic locations around Boston. We maintain a strong emphasis on safety. These skates are also not suitable for beginners or people who do not have strong stopping skills.
Skaters gather at the Hatch Shell on Boston's Esplanade around 7:00 pm and leave promptly at 7:30 p.m.. We usually end the skate near the Boston Common or Copley Square. Sometimes, after the skate, we gather at our favorite pizza or hamburger place and have a late dinner and some drinks. Afterwards, skaters return in groups to the Boston Common parking garage and the MIT side of the Massachusetts Ave. bridge.
Participants must wear helmets and wrist guards, and complete safety gear is encouraged. The skate will be cancelled due to rain or other bad weather, with no notification posted.
